Improvising The Songs Of The Ages

Ken Mowery Casual Head Shot

Thank you for checking out my web page.  I've been singing, playing the piano and playing the harmonic all of my life.  I actually began playing the piano and the harmonica when I was 4 years old.  I would like to play and sing and entertain at your next special event.  I play a broad and eclectic mix of songs covering the past ninety years of popular music. (Click here to see my playlist.)   Whether you are looking for a reception/cocktail style instrumentalist or a piano bar entertainer who can take your guests on a sing-along excursion of a lifetime, I will be able to meet your entertainment needs.

If you prefer, I can also provide a completely Christian playlist consisting of long time favorite hymn classics as well as the latest Christian Contemporary / Praise and Worship favorites.  I've been leading worship in churches for over 25 years.  In fact, for the past 20 years I've been a full time pastor/worship leader serving churches in both Michigan and Colorado.  Truth be told, I've got more sermons than songs, but not to worry, I only preach upon request.

I can use your piano if it is suitable, or I can bring my own digital equipment.  Of course, this is one of the variables that has an impact on the rate I must charge.  Generally, rates range from $100 - $250 an hour.

Please feel free to contact me at ken@creatorsweb.com or 970.301.1682 .

How do you classify the music on your Sampler CD?

On that recording I focused on instrumental fusion music that includes rock, classical, new age, smooth jazz, ambient (minimalism), electronic, and gospel styles..

Did you target a specific audience in your recording project?

I have found somewhat of a market in the television/film/audio visual world. Not that I have achieved any real financial success here.  There does seem to be some appreciation for my instrumental tracks.  My compositions have been used on multi-media projects around the web and on some student film projects.

Do you record in a home studio?

       Yes.

What equipment and software do you use?

For years I've used Cubase along with EMU Audio Production System and my PC and my synthesizer controler.  The set up that I have is not the ultimate, but it does allow me to build the soundscapes I enjoy creating

How did you get started playing music?

I started playing the piano by ear when I was four years old.  Growing up, I spent most of my time playing what ever music I heard and liked. I was pretty self indulgent I guess.  I was a wretched student because of it.  It was always too much effort to read and play.  I wish now that I had studied music more seriously and diligently.  There are some advantages to playing by ear.  For instance, I can transpose to just about any key on the fly which I've always found useful..

What has influenced your music the most?

This is hard to say because I like just about every kind of music.   The study that I have done has been classical for the most part. I've had some great piano teachers over the years.  The type of music I now play week by week as a worship leader in church is gospel and contemporary Christian.  I listen toclassical, jazz and classic rock most of the time.

How has the Internet effected you as a musician?

The internet has changed everything as far as I'm concerned. It has given me the opportunity to network with hundreds of great musicians and bands all over the world. I created my own publishing and promotion business. I've been able to find a market, small as it may be, for the instrumental tracks that I enjoy creating.  This all came into focus because of the world wide web.

When did you start marketing your music on the Internet?

I think I started marketing and promoting on the Internet in about 1996.

What does the future hold for you?

I'll keep playing and recording and I'll keep promoting what I do on the Internet..
